Portraits

Today what we learned to do was to take portraits. As in  pictures of people. The person shown to your left is my group partner Brian Benjamin Benedict. He agreed to have his picture taken. At first the pictures I took were not so good. So the smartest thing to do is to ask for help. So I went to Dr.Lansing and asked him how to make my pictures better.
Throughout his explaining he told me that I had to be near a window. Also that I had to have a good background and use the reflectors. And so I did as he said and there it came my blog picture that you see now. I also had to use the rule of thirds which is being used on his eyes because of the upper grid line on his eyes.
What I had to do to make this picture a success was do what was needed. I simplified the background by using a bergendy cloth that Dr.Lansing held while I was taking the picture. I used the proper lighting by using the reflectors and taking the picture near the window. I told Brian how to position himself and that's how I got this marvelous picture.
In conclusion, when I was getting my picture taken I felt normal. I felt no change and  just did what they told me to do. Since that was easy it didn't take long. Today I learned how to take a portrait photograph. Maybe I can try it home? Stay tuned to find out how our next trip field was like.

  1. Leo: this is a good description of the process of creating this picture. I'm also glad that you had the chance to be the subject for a photo; you didn't feel like that was a lot of work, but being a subject for a photo/portrait, for most people, is very intimidating and uncomfortable. Thanks for helping your classmate. -DL
