Jersey City, a New York City substitute

Today, we got to go to Jersey City's Newport Centre / Mall. (you've probably noticed that I spelled 'center' as 'centre'. This is because that is how it is spelled at the entrance of the mall). From the school, we headed straight to the PATH, where we got our Metro Cards and got on the train. The process of getting our Metro Cards was a lot shorter than I initially thought. I first thought it was going to take forever and that it would hold the other passengers up.

After about 10-15 minutes, we got to Jersey City, where we were immediately organized and told what to do. We then went out to the waterfront and began taking pictures. I was almost stuck being Doctor's partner for the rest of the day because I was alone for a moment. We were not supposed to be caught alone. Whether being Doctor's partner for an entire day is a good thing or a bad thing (considering our given assignment at that time), I have no idea. I saw my partner close by and quickly pointed him out, freeing myself. From there, we headed down the boardwalk, taking more pictures and seeing who could get what picture first after some time. Doctor gave me some ideas as to what to take pictures of, which I was later glad about. Some things he asked me to take pictures of, I was a bit skeptical about. I didn't see the beauty in about two (2) of his suggestions until I took a look at them the next day. When I did, I noticed that they actually looked quite good.
From there, we made our way into the Newport Mall. Our expectations of taking pictures there were shot down as quickly as they arose. We were about thirty (30) steps into the mall when a guard told us that we were not allowed to take pictures. I find it strange how some people seem to be afraid of standard everyday cameras but don't think twice about walking under street corner cameras on their way to work. Not being able to take pictures meant that we now had about an hour of free time, which we used to move around as we wished. After an hour of looking around, we went upstairs to eat lunch.

After eating lunch we headed back to school on the PATH. Once back in Newark, attendance was taken. We then made our way out of Newark Penn Station to the school's stairs, were some of us were dismissed while others went back upstairs for their belongings.

I really enjoyed today. It almost felt like a trip to New York City and I especially liked being in the mall, although we were not able to take pictures. I am definitely looking forward to next week's trip to New York City and hope we will visit the Twin Towers Memorial Site. It would be a nice place to take pictures.

  3. Nice photos of flowers, Gordon, but you also had other subjects and nice pictures -- please post one more that shows something other than flowers. Good work.

  4. I like both of the photos but especially the first one where you filled the frame. I like how you focused more on the flower in the front and how the flowers in the background blurred.

  8. I like your first photo a lot because it fills the frame and it shows rule of thirds and that's what makes this photo so good in my opinion
